Migraine pain relief

There are many ways to relieve one’s self of migraine. Indeed, since there are a lot of people suffering from migraines on a daily basis, it is thus best to work on various ways and means to soothe them of the pain of such headaches. Medications, therapies and other treatments have been developed by medical experts in order to relieve patients of migraine attacks, ranging from painkillers, tricyclic antidepressants, beta blockers and other forms of drugs.

But while more complicated new migraine treatments such as Botox and in migraine surgery are recommended on persons suffering from chronic migraines, there are also simple ways to relieve the pain brought by the condition. By knowing how to use these remedies, individuals will be able to manage their headaches effectively until the pain finally comes to a close.

Water Therapy as Migraine Pain Relief

Water therapy is an easy and equally effective way in relieving a person suffering from migraine. Taking a glass or two of tap water during the onset of migraine may retard the pain brought by migraine, as it soothes the brain and the nerves, and at the same time allows the whole body to relax. It is recommended to drink only tap water during the onset of the migraine attack; cold water may only cause a brain freeze and worsen the condition of the headache.

Ice Compress

While drinking cold water is not a good recommendation, iced chills meanwhile can be applied on the sites in which the pain can be felt. This is done to bring migraine pain relief in these areas, and at the same time relax the other parts of the body.

Inclined Back Support

When trying to get some rest due to migraine, individuals should not bend or lie down on a flat surface. Doing either position will only make the person feel worse; the blood is pushed to go to the wrong direction and in turn may cause further problems such as strokes. Laying the back on the bed meanwhile makes it difficult for the person to breathe and in turn may lose total conscious because of the lack of air and dizziness due to the migraine. It is best to give the back some inclined support, as this gives the lungs better space to breathe and function, while at the same time the head and neck are able to keep their balance while enduring the headache.

Mint Candy for Migraine Pain Relief

During unexpected migraine situations, one can chew on a mint candy in order to reduce the intensity of the headache pain. The minty cool flavor of the candy helps in soothing the brain and in turn it does not push towards a more difficult migraine situation. This first aid tip can be done when suffering from sudden migraine attacks while in the car, bus or public transport, as in those places individuals cannot immediately call for help. Once out of the vehicle, try to breathe deep in order to feel much more relaxed.
